In our case for my wife, I had to pay over $6000 to an attorney, wait for a year for approval of the paperwork, then wait another 18 months before a review at the US Consulate in Mexico, then wait another 4 months for the documents. And this was for my wife...almost 3 years for permanent residency - for a legal immigrant.
