I think I am much closer to the reality of this issue than you are, as my wife is an immigrant from Mexico, as many of her family members are, and I live in Texas...who has one of the largest populations of illegals in the country, and yet has one of the strongest economies. All of her family members are college graduates, many of them have masters, doctorates and MBA's. (Colleges in Mexico are some of the best in the world, according to world opinion, with some ranked in the top 10.) They couldn't get work visas to the US. Tell me, exactly what do you think those from south of the border can get work visas to do? There are none for unskilled labor, such as farm work. None for anything else either, that the government won't approve someone from a different geographical area for first. The only work visa they can apply for is as an ESL teacher...and those are extremely limited. To say they are available is not the same as saying that they are issued.
