I am sorry that you see an article from the Agriculture News to be slanted...we subscribed to that in Indiana on the farm where I grew up. I grew up on a farm...and not all farms are the same. We grew corn, soybeans and wheat 1200 acres) and had a dairy farm to boot (300 head of dairy, milked at 4am and 4pm every day). Not very 'labor intensive', other than the hours, however my uncle grew cucumbers in Michigan, and he always had hundreds of migrant workers picking cucumbers. This was in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Different produce requires different labor requirements. Peaches, for example, can't be picked by machines. I picked apples a few times too...really hard, and the professionals who did it (migrant workers) could fill 3 crates (4' X 4' X 4') for each one I did. We got paid for what we picked. No hourly pay. So we can Waaah! for what we wish to be true, or we can accept what actually is.
