Steve, Cowpland is widely regarded as a glib, unfocused buffoon with little or no sense of direction and little or no business skill. Technically, he doesn't have what it takes to run an applications software company and his wild forays into areas for which he is equally incompetent doesn't bode well for his future. Frankly, it's puzzling why such an abject failure is being allowed to continue. Even a mildly successful Corel could not diminish his level of incompetence, there's no hope for this foolish man.

The latest evidence that Cowpland is in a still in a dream-like stupor appeared the other day when he attempted to position an accountant as the combination leading Information Systems guru and CFO. That is asinine.

'Mike O'Reilly's skills in the areas of both financial and information systems implementation will complement our strategic growth plans for 1998,'' said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corp. ''In particular, his experience working with financial information systems within the hi-tech sector will be a tremendous asset to Corel going forward.

Strategic growth plans and tremendous asset going foward are two of the most meaningless platitudes known, at least they could attemp to be original.
