Sales jumped 11% in North America and 9.7% in Europe. The comparable sales gain was significant. It was the biggest quarterly increase since the fourth quarter of 2004, and only the sixth gain since late 2005, according to Retail Metrics. The adjusted profit of 14 cents a share was another big surprise because analysts were expecting an average 2-cent loss, Retail Metrics said.
