Either way the actions of Reno's forces were indefensible.

If they believed they were dealing with members of a heavily armed cult, they should not have stormed the compound with gas and fire power, resulting in the death of 80 men women and children. The truth is, it was probably an accident that was avoidable but which resulted from an assault by Reno's forces anyway...and which 1) confirms David Koresh's prophecy and 2) exacerbates the feelings of distrust in government by conservatives. We also know Reno and Clinton never came clean on it. Dick Morris continued to campaign for Clinton after that and leaked what he knew.

Now there is a New Branch Davidian community just east of Waco.
