No...sorry...I am a distribted systems architect and an internetworking specialist... and no I don't intall hardware for a company...I architect and direct larger number of engineers who do...when it comes to predicting future...noone has a cristal ball... telcos use very complex networks and neworking equipment to run thier business...I work mostly with telcos... and when you walk in to a network OP center at any of these communication companies..all you see is csico, coms, bay, ascend...they do not have their own equipment.if that is what you mean...networkers will be providing the infrastructure for these telcos or cable companies to do business...AOL was down last year due to a CISCO router problem ...thats how critical these equpments and relating technologies are to these people... as for cable....cable companies have a long ways to go to even get near the telcos in terms of hightly available and managable redundant networks...example...when was the last time you had problems with your cable...and what kind of service diod you get...? there are no redundant paths is the cable infrastructures today.. telephone switch out...well my friend you would have probably a 100 different ways/paths to get out....this does not mean the cable companies won't be there...they will be but it will take time the telecom infrastructure you see has taken many many years to build...and lots of money..but whose equipment these cable companies will be using for data and voice transmition...you guessed right... future will bring a hightly transparent and reliable and distributed infrastrcture which will bring the world to you and not only to your PC...in many different ways.. I don't know what Geroge says...but if that aint so...entire high tect sector will be out of business as that where they are spending all their R&d funds on.. does the term Chief technology officer ring a bell with you...that is the title I held before going to business for myself....
