I agree that the internet box as a $500 standalone device seems to not have much chance of success. There were some industry pundits quoted today following Oracles "unveiling" of their internet device who said that the true cost of such a device once a monitor, add-on cards and upgrades are factored into account would be more in the range of $750-1000/unit. Which leads to the question of what is a price that someone would pay for a cheap access to the internet and what would be its services/values in lieu of a standalone PC type platform? I do believe that there are many people who would use the Internet who are not now able to because there is no device technology available for them. It will be an interesting evolution of our society to see how this access is made available if at all.
