I'm guessing there probably aren't a lot of "cheap" places in VA, save the sticks. I priced out real estate in Valley Forge, PA. Gosh, I was surprised at how high the prices were up relative to where I lived. There was a completely different vibe - no fences, which sounds sort of quaint until you get a neighbor with boundary issues, or alternatively someone who just happens by from the urban core.
Oh, and wine - no way! You buy it from bars or state liquor stores. They still have a bug up their ass about a number of other quaintnesses I wasn't ready for. You know, if someone wants quaint, a college town somewhere might be okay. I've considered Eugene,OR, Flagstaff,AZ, Moscow, ID and places like that. Short of being an academic, though, can someone else really survive there and flourish? Groceries, friends and culture are what you need when you are bored with scenery. |
