I am as thrilled as anyone that the three young women escaped their captors in Cleveland after ten years of horror, but if I hear one more pundit call the young woman who made the initial escape a 'hero', I am going to scream.

A hero is someone who exhibits extraordinary courage in attempting to secure someone else's welfare. The three men who came to the aid of Ambassador Stevens on that fateful day in Benghazi were genuine heroes.

If this story of the three young women overshadows the Benghazi hearings, and the needless deaths of four courageous Americans are not granted the national stage that they so rightly deserve, there is something very wrong in America.

We need to stop labeling as heroes people who have done something remarkable, but who did not reach within themselves to risk their own well being in the service of others. Diluting such meaningful terms somehow lessens us as a people.
