Wages and personnel

Hi Cheryl,

We know that IT wages are continuously increasing.

Let's do the following thought experiment. Let us assume that the increase would not be GRADUAL, but that all of a sudden on 1/1/1998, all salaries ONLY of people that are really fixing the Y2K problem (IT, technicians, project managers etc) would increase with e.g. 500 % (it's a thought experiment; not reality ;-)).

What reaction would the following people have in January 1998?:

- IT personel now working on projects that do not solve Y2K directly or indirectly. E.g. think of all people now busy working on PC software that is already compliant.
- Other personel that might be able to fix Y2K after some training (most university trained people I guess).

In reality, this will not happen. But by using the thought experiment; we are able to see certain trends on the job market...

Any thoughts?

Regards,

John
