Interesting article . . I don't care who the first Christian was . . . not at all important. The Bible (of which the Dead Sea scrolls contained a lot of the Old Testament) tells us of the Jews and there love of God and longing for a Messiah to save them from their despair, slavery, captivity, etc. One can imagine that this was especially strong during the 400 years prior to Jesus coming to Earth when God did not send a prophet nor speak to His people. After almost 4,000 years of showing His Love and He kept being loved then rejected then loved then rejected . . . I guess He let them stew for a while before sending the Messiah Jesus. During that time, the Jews had built up an image of what their Savior would "look like" . . . proud, powerful, and "majestic" ... defeating their Roman captors with amazing power. Instead, Jesus came with humility and peace . . teaching love and open arms. Jews, Romans, Greeks, and Arabs were all welcome into His Kingdom . . . all they had to do was believe in Him with all of their heart and soul. SO . . I would have to guess that the FIRST Christian was one who believed right away when they first saw Him . . . OR .. one who deciphered the prophecies of Daniel and knew when Jesus would come to Earth and believed in Him even before He came. BUT, then again, it does not matter whom the first was . . . all that is important is that "you" become one before the LAST Christian is welcomed. :-) |
