Photronics 2nd-Quarter Profit Down 45% on Weaker Sales
6:38 PM ET 5/14/13 | Dow Jones

Photronics Inc.'s (PLAB) fiscal second-quarter profit fell 45% as lower input costs at the company failed to offset a decline in revenue.

Shares fell 9.3% to $7.20 in after-hours trading as results also missed consensus estimates. The stock is up 72% over the past six months.

The maker of photomasks--a key element in the manufacture of semiconductors and flat-panel displays--has now reported six consecutive quarters of weaker revenue.

For the latest period, Photronics posted income of $4.9 million, or eight cents a share, down from $8.8 million, or 14 cents a share, a year earlier. The latest period had fewer shares outstanding than the prior-year quarter.

Net sales decreased 9.2% to $106.7 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had anticipated per-share earnings of nine cents on revenue of $108.5 million.

Operating margin narrowed to 7.6% from 11.2%, as input costs declined 6.5%.
