This is not a thread about politics or where you can pander your prejudices. Is it now your position that the majority is justified to burn down businesses and murder the minority over their fears and resentments? Would you have taken the same position if it was a Muslim majority burning down Christian and Jewish businesses?

The reason I posted the article is to show that even a staunchly anti-violence religion such as Buddhism succumbs to lure of mob mentality and becomes a tool of statecraft. People always do as they please and if they can use religion to justify what they want to do, then so much the better.

And if you had bothered to actually read the article, you would have noted the following:

(1) "Tellingly, the violence began in a gold shop. The movements in both countries exploit a sense of economic grievance - a religious minority is used as the scapegoat for the frustrated aspirations of the majority."

(2) " More importantly, many came to feel Buddhism was integral to their national identity - and the position of minorities in these newly independent nations was an uncomfortable one."

(3) "Led by a monk, Ashin Wirathu, who was jailed in 2003 for inciting religious hatred. Released in 2012, he has referred to himself bizarrely as "the Burmese Bin Laden"...On Tuesday, Buddhist mobs attacked mosques and burned more than 70 homes in Oakkan, north of Rangoon, after a Muslim girl on a bicycle collided with a monk. One person died and nine were injured."

And there you go, taking the side of a self declared "Buddhist Bin Laden" just because you hate the Muslims...so much for the effects of Christian education...or Buddhist one for that matter!
