Yes I would rather hold cash substitute "Stable value fund" which yields nothing but has virtually no risk either. Owning a bond fund seems like taking a lot of interest rate risk with very little reward.

My equity allocation in my 401k is down to 50%. I am "crash proof" there. I wish we had a brokerage window option. I have been lobbying our benefit gal at HR for years but I don't think they consider it, probably too concerned about legal issues,if employees start to gamble their retirement money.
