Z,
Why the hell would I not believe in something just to spite someone else?

You already said it. Think about why you are so focused on whether Jesus existed or not vs. whether someone like Socrates or Plato existed. It's because you see so many people worshiping Jesus Christ, and you also believe that many if not most of them hurt people and are harmful to society.

That's why you clearly have a higher standard of proof. That's understandable for a man who claimed to be the son of God. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

But you're not intent on just disproving the claim itself. You now have to go further and disprove his very EXISTENCE. And you said it yourself, you spent hours upon hours "researching" this question, when even most skeptics and atheists assume that Jesus the man most likely was real. Even the well-known gathering of skeptics called the "Jesus Seminar" made that assumption.

I can only think of one reason why you're willing to go further to disprove Jesus' very existence (vs. Plato or Socrates or whoever), and it's because deep down, you really do want to spite Christians.
