Joe,

Here's how Marengi feels about Steve Markmen...

Novell Creates New Cross-Functional Management Team

OREM, Utah - September 19, 1996 - Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVL) today announced it has made changes to flatten its management structure and create a cross-functional management team. Joe Marengi, who was named president of Novell August 29, 1996, has designated his direct reports and a small group of key managers to work together as the lead management team at the company.
"Removing layers of management creates a fully-integrated team with the customer at its center," said Marengi. "In today's market environment we must act at Internet speed, inside, as well as outside our company."
Directly reporting to Marengi are Mary M. Burnside, executive vice president corporate services, Glenn Ricart, executive vice president and chief technology officer, James R. Tolonen, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Senior vice presidents responsible for legal, human resources, marketing, sales and engineering management also report to Marengi.
In addition to executives reporting to Marengi, his core management team also includes the senior vice presidents responsible for education, customer support and information systems. They continue to report to executive vice presidents in the organization.
In a related announcement, executive vice president and general manager of Novell Products Group, Steve Markman, has resigned from Novell. Markman, who joined the company in the fall of 1994, assumed product group responsibilities in January 1996. He is leaving to join General Magic Corporation.
