** sort of off topic - re: APM **
at the time, which now seems so long ago, APM said that it was RDRT's capacity they wanted, and they denied needing the technology. Crisman felt that he could manage RDRT's existing capacity better than they did. Also, it's now clear that japanese competition is major factor, and he probably had in mind a larger american company being better able to compete than two smaller ones. to this day I think he believed every word he said. If WDC couldn't see this coming just two months ago, there's no way Crisman could have seen it in january.
What he did see coming, and what you know is now taking place, is that total industry capacity is basically doubling this year. part of that is due to pico, and part of that is just expansion. so it's glut city, and APM is toast. Buying RDRT could have mitigated the glut, and would have been a good move. so in a nutshell, wall street created a glut, or at least contributed to it, by making the takeover impossible, although it's not clear it would have succeeded anyway.
anybody need proof that the actions of wall street have serious consequenses on main street? well there it is. of course you could argue that all they did was hasten the inevitable, but here was Crisman trying to alter the course of things, and they just flatly wouldn't let him. I honestly believe that malice had a part in it, but that's niether here nor there.
