This Seeking Alpha guy has written a pretty good argument against selling a stock just because it appreciates a certain amount or because it appreciated really quickly. I have always disliked the expression, "You can never go broke taking a profit". Here's why "selling half and letting the other half ride" can be very dangerous, if not stupid:
