d.g and trader dave, thanks for the explanantions on the options. you are right. when you look at how much in terms of percentage you need to get in order to make money, it is not worth it. not when i have to assume the stock will rise as much as 50% to break even. i guess the options are a good hedge if you have made money and are trying to preven losses. learn something new each day. thanks
