Amid Scandals, Obama Looks to Change the Subject
Obama’s flawed policy

The IRS scandal continues to unravel. Reporters’ phones are being accessed by the Justice Department so President Obama yesterday attempted to change the subject.

Good luck with that.

In what was billed as a major address on counterterrorism, the president ’fessed up to some previously secret drone strikes that have killed a total of four Americans in the course of counterterrorism operations abroad (actually three of them were already known). He also announced a new — but classified — policy that will govern future strikes in areas outside war zones. And because it’s classified we are given only the sketchiest information, but it would apparently limit drone strikes to those who can’t feasibly be captured and who pose a “continuing imminent threat to Americans.”

.Frankly it hasn’t kept us up at night wondering which jihadists are being targeted in whatever Third World hellhole they’ve gone to for training.

What is concerning is that once again Obama wants to wrap himself — and more to the point this nation’s national security apparatus — in copious quantities of red tape of its own creation.

Even more distressing is that the only other best option to taking out the bastards with a drone strike — locking them up in Guantanamo Bay and throwing away the key — is now also off the table.

Yes, the president still wants to keep his promise to all his goo-goo supporters to close down the prison — still home to some 166 detainees of whom 86 have been cleared for transfer to Yemen (56 of those are from Yemen). He now promises to speed up those transfers, but not make them so speedy that Yemen can’t keep track of them.

The latter has been more than problematic. These guys have one profession and one profession only — they are fighters. And so they return to the one life they know — and the one cause they believe in — bringing death to the infidels (that would be us).

The president seems to believe his own press releases — that bin Laden is dead, al-Qaeda is on the run and the global war on terror is all but over. It wasn’t true in Benghazi and it wasn’t true in Boston. And with every day he spends in office, Obama is weakening our national security.
