Yes, Henry Niman was a Sier long ago. Recombinomics is his expertise. Member 862287 He was disparaged by some of the biological commenters here [professional jealousy type commentary]. Henry has been concerned about and interested in bird flu and similar for a long time. Me too. It seems certain that one day the viral world will hit the jackpot and demonstrate that the giant human gene pool with billions of people living cheek by jowl with travel from everywhere to everywhere within 24 hours is a major breeding opportunity for a new disease with negligible immunity.

It might be that people are quick enough and smart enough these days to avoid the worst of it. But the human realm is as taught as a drum these days with complex systems based on abstract values supporting our food supplies so even avoiding it could create a calamitous catastrophe. Japan has always keep lots of local rice growing rather than depend totally on cheap rice from overseas. That could be a wise if expensive decision.
