I read an article today on the bakken oil production, saying that current production will reach 1 million barrels per day at the end of this year...and this is based on a production zone of 36 feet. Apparently there are another 4000 feet of production zone that has not been tapped yet.

Just wondering if Bart has some thoughts on this, ie, the article was saying that the US could reach energy independence by tapping the additional 4000 feet of production zone. Granted, the production decays exponentially, but even so, is it possible for this massive zone to make a substantial contribution towards US energy independence?
