I am seeing more BMRQ chips in batteries. After Duracell left the general purpose battery business, many small companies are taking up the slack and reaching for an off the shelf gas gauging solution. Duracell had used their own ASIC. BMRQ is getting more business now as a result of Duracell's pullout in that product area.

All of the OEMs seem to be having trouble fully implementing the Smart Battery specification. It doesn't seem to matter which solution is used, be it MicroChip or Benchmarq, all seem to have quirks. I hear BMRQ has good customer support, which is VERY important, so those problems should be ironed out soon.

BMRQ is getting designed-in all over the place in battery packs, especially Li-Ion.
