sheila, Let's look at CPQ over a longer period of time.
All split adjusted.
12/31/96 12/5/97
CPQ 29.75 64.75 117.64%
DELL 26.57 93.75 252.24%
IBM 75.75 112.25 48.18%
HWP 50.25 67.75 34.82%

Since Oct 27th there has been a recent price divergence between DELL and CPQ, however since the first of the year the two have tracked upward in unison. IMHO this divergence is only a short term condition.
I would expect CPQ to make a run to the 76-79 level while DELL consolidates around its current level.
Beware, I own CPQ but not DELL.
Additionally, I believe the analysts just can't quite figure the effects of the sub 1K business ie. margin, and are not quite willing to upgrade until results are announced or leaked. Whenever they see low prices, their first thoughts are low earnings. They will shortly find out that that is not necessarly true.
Hang in there for the loooog run,

Good investing,
Duncan
