' direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process '

That definition is insufficient. Most definitions (by necessity) fall far short of all the details, exceptions, and alternatives. I guess that is why we have essays and books to flesh out truth beyond a single sentence--which truth is really only as much fact as will fit into a single sentence. Uh Huh?

Intuition is direct apprehension of a PERCEIVED truth or fact. It is often very very mistaken or wrong. Why is it often wrong? Because when one intuits something, one is using the brain's capacity to know something through a quick (and generally unrecognised) compilation and cross-referencing of memory, experiece, perception, and pattern recognition.

Every day, thousands of people get the "intuitive" feeling that something unfortunate might happen to their loved one(s) on a plane, train, automobile, or tupperware party. But most of these "intuitions" are misplaced.

So while it is wise to listen to intuition (which can be very significant in people with vast experience, sharp senses, and superior intellect)...it should be considered with due caution and should in no wise be considered as mystical or infallible. Reality will kick the shit out of intuition 9 times out of 10. And when intuition and reality conform, it is never because reality has yielded or changed. That is for DAMN SURE!

Intutuition is a certain attribute of our brains and our sense perceptions. It is not magical. It is not supernatural. People without brains do not have intuitions. Dead people do not have them.
