Per usual, I might add. ..

If Bill Gates had less money, then others would have had more. If those people were in the lower income brackets, they would have spent it. Spending money generates economic activity. Economic activity results in economic growth.

The problem with concentrating more and more money in fewer and fewer hands is that it favors investment over economic activity. That might be ok if those investments were channeled into industries that specialized in exports, but that is rarely the case. In most cases, those investments are channeled into speculation in real estate or financial instruments making the economy prone to bubbles and crashes. This was why the 1800s were marked by the various Panics and Depressions.

It really is not complicated.
