It still contradicts your assertion that taxation has never been lower. The truth is that the progressive tax curve has become sharper in recent years. While taxes for the lower 50% have indeed gone down, taxes for the upper 50% have gone up.

I saw the chart that bentway posted...here's another.




... and that's why it's reasonable to say that taxes have gone up.
