No. A child starves to death every few seconds after long suffering as a result of tough times. People live or die due to circumstances both in and beyond their control. It is irrelevant what they believe or who they pray to. Nobody is sorting it out. The hurricane or tsunami or fire or car wreck does what it does--and starvation or a bad virus in the air or on your plate does what it does. You don't get toughened or strengthened when some guy with a gun follows his particular god voices and drills bullets through a crowd of people, or when some asshole blows a group of people up with a bomb.

Yeah, life can make survivors tough--when they survive. But by the time we go to the boneyard, most of us will be shadows of people---weak, sick, and suffering. And some of us (perhaps, luckily) will have no idea who we are or what we once were--or what it was like to be strong and free--or to feel the joy of facing into the wind...
