Ugh. I hate that. The folks who have to tell you all their aches and pains are the worst., What could they be thinking? Who wants to know that about strangers? That must be one of the most boring topics of conversation there is- unless you care about the person, and you really want to know how they are. And even then, I find friends keep their check-ins short and sweet- because they care about me.

On my list of "What not to do when I'm an old fart"- that's way near the top. I also don't want to get curmudgeonly, don't want to have any fantasies about young people being interested in my life, and don't want to have long boring monologues with people about any topics that make younger people's eyes glaze over. Plus I hope I never lose my optimism about the future. Just because I won't be in it, doesn't mean it won't be excellent. There's a lot of sour grapes going on for some people. They want to believe the world is going to be a toilet, and you have to suspect that part of that is just their anger at the fact that they won't be around in it. Too bad. We all die. The world can still be awesome and amazing. And in the case of some people, their absence will add to the awesomeness and amazingness...
