Shares in Kingsoft Corp., the Chinese online game and Internet software supplier chaired by Chinese tech billionaire Lei Jun, soared by 18% in Hong Kong yesterday after the company said its earnings more than doubled in the first three months of the year.

Unaudited net profit climbed to 195.9 million yuan, or $32 million, from 87.5 million yuan a year earlier, Kingsoft said in a statement. Sales climbed by 56% to 456 million.

Revenue from Kingsoft’s online game business, which accounts for more than half of its sales, rose by 40%, Kingsoft said. Sales tied to its Kingsoft Internet Security business grew even faster. Lei, who also leads unlisted Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi and Nasdaq-listed social site YY YY ranked No. 878 on the 2013 Forbes Billionaires List with wealth of $1.75 billion. ###
