I heard an interview with Romney on Cavuto's show today. I know a lot of people on both sides didn't like him, but the man is competent and he has more integrity in his little finger than Obama can come up with in the entire White House.
I was just thinking about the fact that had all this crap come out before the election, we'd likely have a different president today. And as my mind wandered about, the potential implications of this information being withheld from the voter seeped in. It is a fairly complicated picture IMO.
I have backed off my belief that Obama had nothing to with the IRS scandal. At first, I believed it was a few rogue employees, no systematic effort was involved, they just made a stupid decision on how to get hold of these organizations they perceived to of questionable purpose.
But a lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. Kim Strassel's article yesterday sort of tied it up into a package that pretty much laid it on the doorstep of the Oval Office. Obama is out around the country telling people we've got to do something about these conservative organizations -- even naming the Koch Bros by name. Meanwhile, he's holding meetings with Shulman (apparently a far-left winger), a person Obama has absolutely no business meeting with. 7 or more such meetings. Obama has a meeting with the head of the Treasury employees union. WTF does he have to talk with this person about?
Consider, that if the ostensibly benign remarks Obama & his team were making around the country at the time, was made in the context of a meeting with Shulman -- "We've got to do something about these conservative organizations." That would been seen as an approval by Shulman to pursue these cases -- unless Shulman said, "Mr. President, can I have that in writing?" -- which I"d bet Shulman wouldn't have said. That's all it would take.
Then, there is Lois Lerner, who after these events, found herself in receipt of $100K in bonuses, accompanied by a fat promotion to a far more important position. Coincidence?
There's not going to be a "smoking gun", but when you look at all the facts and circumstances, it is almost impossible to conclude that these IRS people weren't, at least from their POV, following orders. "We've got to do something about these conservative organizations."
When everyone was saying, "Where's the damned Tea Party -- they've disappeared?" back during the election, they didn't "disappear", they were just tamped down by the president.
Arguably, the closest our country has come to fascism was during the FDR presidency (which might have made the transition had Huey P. Long survived). It is the responsibility of the Media to protect against this sort of thing (which is why they receive special status in our Constitution). In 2008 and 2012 they failed remarkably.
While there are many reasons for Romney losing the election in 2012, I am starting to think the failure of the media to uncover and report on the IRS may well have changed the outcome of the election. |
