While honey bees (Apis mellifera) are widely viewed as the most important pollinators of agricultural crops, more and more evidence is suggesting that native bee species are in fact contributing significantly to crop pollination.

Uh........no one has said otherwise. The Dept of Ag is saying 1/3 of the vegs/fruits humans eat are pollinated by honey bees. Someone has to be pollinating the other 2/3. Like I've said, here in the PNW we have the Mason bees.........my neighbor has a hive. They only live in the spring and pollinate from April to June. Then there are the Pollen bees.......another native species.

However, 1/3 of a multi billion dollar industry is a huge amount and that's means honey bees play a significant role. And for some undetermined reason, honey bee colonies are dying off. That's what has scientists concerned.
