"Goodies cost money that must be taken from others." in 18th century America, the common terminology for the purpose of govt was for the 'protection of life, liberty and property'. I think they had learned thru the centuries that kings and aristocrats main object is to take property, so their concern was to block the efforts of these two groups to use the power of govt to take property. Now we need to re-learn that lesson, except this time the king and aristocracy are replaced by our neighbors...hopefully this lesson will not take centuries to learn.. rp
