Well, Bob, this thread is a little long in the tooth. So long that it's hard to remember what the shouting was about.

As I recall it, this was part of a debate I have been having with people in the industry for years that they were missing the boat on huge new demographics to make games/entertainments for. All the twitch guys have always scoffed at that. And of course while I was arguing other people were doing and here comes Myst, and Barbie, and those cute Japanese computer pets. All the really huge new titles have been brand new categories. And nothing to do with Disney characters. ;-)

So my main theme has been, screw the 14 year old pimply boys, the real money is elsewhere. But to date my only apps to demonstrate this have been on obsolete platforms. "Dave Winfield's batter Up" for C64, on which I was merely the programmer, sold very well and was a different category of game product, but on the C64, long dead and the lesson forgotten.

I conceived of and POC'd an authoring system eventually called the 'Book Engine" for CDI with which around 20 titles were created circa 1990-1991. These titles were of a completely different category of console CD (mostly sequential childrens stories) and did as well as anything else on the CDI platform, in fact much better. But that's not saying much as CDI was an abject failure.

Now I'm involved in another attempt in a new demographic. I wish I could talk about it, but obviously I would be an idiot to specify anything. If I am successful there will be another new category. Wish me luck.

Chaz

P.S. I also have Civilisation. Haven't tried Civ II yet. Congratulations on your lifestyle.
