Nokia saying final farewell to Symbian this summer June 11, 2013 \| By Surur wmpoweruser.com The Financial Times reports that Nokia will send its final shipments of Symbian handsets to store shelves this summer. Their Windows Phone shipments only surpassed their Symbian shipments in Q4 2012 and Nokia still shipped 500,000 of the handsets in Q1 this year. It was thought by many that that quarter would be the last the devices will appear. While many ex-Nokians blame Nokia’s profitability problems on their Windows Phone transition, the shift to the new OS has helped Nokia move from a stagnant company to a very nimble one, who released 7 brand new Windows Phones in as many months over the last year. “It took 22 months to get a Symbian phone out of the door. With Windows Phone, it is less than a year. We spend less time having to tinker with deep-lying code and more time on crafting elements of the experience that make a big difference, such as around photography, maps, music and apps in general,” Nokia commented. With signs of traction by Windows Phone being shown in recent reports by Kantar, we can only hope that the critics will soon be convinced that Nokia made the right move.
