Maybe having the choice of whether or not to pay for all that expandability is a good thing.

I still get a little nauseous looking at the sheer volume of waste I had in all those tower cases.

That would be fine if Apple makes the new Mac Pro substantially cheaper, since they won't be including all that internal expandability, but my strong suspicion is they won't. They won't want to have in compete in price with the iMac.

A cheaper Mac Pro would offset the cost of those extra boxes the pros will have to buy, while satisfying the lower end users as well. But Apple will still likely charge a premium for the Pro and make almost everyone unhappy in the process.
