The system is broken. We had the worst delivery system in the civilized world. American exceptionalism meant this was the only county in the world forcing patients into bankruptcy to get health care.
I completely agree with you. However, I believe a better system could have been worked out. The problem is lobbyists from the pharmaceutical companies stuffing the pockets of politicians and everyone else to keep prices high and treat symptoms instead of causes...which you know if you are in the medical field. They make more money off of "cures" than they would off of prevention which is also a reason why preventative treatment for those disposed genetically to get cancer, preventing the disease, would be highly unlikely as that is one of their biggest money-makers. In order to make healthcare affordable, the answer is not to penalize doctors and other healthcare professionals. The solution would be limiting the profits pharmaceutical companies and other suppliers can make off of products and enacting a better oversight system than the FDA is currently doing to also include the end-cost to the consumer, limiting the margin they can impose on the product. I don't have the numbers, but this alone should cut costs in half.
