RE: "He was burned badly and never got back into the market"

I am amazed at how many "investors" are willing to bet the
ranch in this or any market. The Number One Rule in investing:
Never, ever, ever take a position that would cause a total
loss.
You always want to be able to play again after losses.
Yet, even "professionals" like Neiderhoffer do amateurish naked
put plays and take risks which tap them out.

My current allocations are about 70%cash/intermediates and
30% equity comprised of a significant private placement
(bought around book), some LEAPS and long term core positions.
In 1997, I was 85% equities until August, altering my exposure
before October 27, and as I look back consider myself more
lucky than smart this year.<g> Now I cannot increase my equity
component until I better understand the earnings environment
that stocks are rallying into.

Good investing all.
