China no doubt has a list of people they would like to have returned to China from the USA.

Unlike the usual hostage situation, this is the reverse. Freedom has been given to various people including Edward Snowden and a "prisoner" exchange is the likely demand of China which has legislated power to intercede on Edward's extradition from Hong Kong.

The USA will have to hand over "free" people to China to get hold of "unfree" Edward to return him to even less free USA, the Land of the unFree and Home of the Fearful.

The USA will not hand over China's citizens or even one of them to get hold of Edward. China will not want a low-level criminal returned for treatment. They will want a showcase person.

Meanwhile, Edward might have a self-defence mechanism like a spikey, poisonous "eat me and you die" information release mechanism if he had so much information at his finger tips. So far, he seems to be a patriotic American in defence of We the People against We the Big Brother.
