6/14/13 Contest Update
Of the myriad of the week’s biotech news stories, the one that has to be the most significant was the Supremes ruling on gene patents. “Stop! In The Name Of Science” was their unanimous decision. Investors, on the other hand, were anything but unanimous with stocks taking another roller-coaster ride.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 23.83% YTD (vs. up 23.70% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 28.10% (vs. up 30.74% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 13.38% YTD (vs. up 14.89% YTD a week ago).
There was nothing flaky about FILO’s portfolio performance, as it grabbed first place with a 70.29% YTD gain. BLADE’s portfolio, up 68.54% YTD, held on to second place and RKRW’s portfolio, up 67.96% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, 36 of the 39 Contest portfolios were still in the black with 15 of the 39 beating the NBI.
