Ted, you are incredibly hypersensitive when it comes to race relations. It likely stems from a fear of retribution from minorities. If you believed that minorities can forgive the white man for crimes committed against them, you would have nothing to fear.
I am hypersensitive to race relations because I have seen how divisive and damaging it is for this country. I've watched the LAPD beat the shit out of a Latino man whose worst crime may have been that he was illegal. Every time he fell because they pushed him down was an excuse to beat him senseless. When I tried to intervene on his behalf, the cops threatened me and told me to get back into my house. I am hypersensitive to race because I was standing with one of my best friends on the quad after playing racquetball and watching his face as one of my fraternity brothers came up to me and complained about how the Jews were ruining the campus and wished they would take their big noses and go home. You see my friend was Jewish but because he had blond hair, blue eyes and a small nose, my frat bro didn't suspect he was. I am hypersensitive to race because a friend, a Latina and an attorney in my office, asked if she could go to a studio party to which I was invited because she was excited to see Hollywood stars and even though a LA native, had never been invited to a studio party. Every time she stepped away from me some asshole would come up an asked why I brought my maid to the party or asked if her name was Maria. For two hours I worried someone would say something to her and ruin the fun she was having. I am hypersensitive because when I tried to get my head lifeguard from the summer before and a friend into my frat., he got dung because he was black and I was told never to bring up another black man as a potential frat. bro. I had the fun job of explaining to him why he couldn't get into my house.
Racism in this country is ugly, ignorant and demeaning. The events up above are rather minor. If that was the extent of racism in this country, then one could say its not that bad. But racism goes much deeper and is much more subtle. Good, talented people are not promoted. It has led to an underclass that acts as an economic drag on this country. It has led to serious violence and cordoning off of whole sections of our cities. It prevents people from attaining their full worth. Its a serious problem that we can not afford to have have as we become a minority majority nation.
So if I am hypersensitive as you put it, I believe I have good reason.
Instead, you lash out against other white people, particularly white conservatives, for what you think they have done to minorities. Your posts would make anyone who didn't know any better believe that you were a member of the Black Panthers. Indeed, there are many times you even acted like a victimized minority.
Whites are the biggest perpetrators of racism in this country. That's not to say there are not black, Latino and Asian racists........because there are. However, the greatest power resides with whites and that makes their racism the most damaging. And the people who seem to have the most trouble accepting this country's diversity and appear to be the most unaware of other people who are not like them are conservatives. I do not think you understand how surprising it is you have never heard the term beaner previously after living in CA for nearly 10 years. Some of the things my cousin says.......an educated doctor........are also surprising. There seems to be a surprising level of ignorance among conservatives when it comes to other races and ethnicities.
You have to forgive your fellow white man, especially the racists, the bigots, the sexists, the homophobes, and every other loser in society who lives only to get a rise out of people. It's not easy, or else the world would be a much better place.
I guess I don't have a problem forgiving but forgiving is a luxury...........we need more than forgiveness. We need growth, awareness and acceptance. |
