The Money Flow Indicator is an accumulation/distribution indicator
derived from this formula:

(((Close - Low)-(High-Close)) / (High- Low)) * Volume

This formula is applied to each day's activity and a running total is kept of the result. This is the line that is displayed for the indicator.

Basically, if the price closes in the lower half of it's daily range, the volume is subtracted for the day. It is not based on the change from the previous day, or the change from the open.

This formula was invented before the open price was being collected on a regular basis.
