because some people like power and control so those in the gov grow that power by growing gov.
"Why do we obey them, almost by rote? They regulate everything you do, how often you cut your own grass, what gas you put in your car, how the plumbing and electrical in your house works, where you can walk, who you have sex with, what your clothes are made of ... ... ... it's smothering, isn't it?
because to most of us gov has more resources and get that away our freedom.
people don't obey them by rote, have you've been on any highway ? you see anyone stopping before making a right on red ? see people's tax returns ? I burn leaves cut down live trees on my property, both illegal
of course they try a to regulate, that's part of the control some people like over others
