Maria B. may have very well been tricked as you suggest, but she should have had enough sense not to portray the buy-out as a done deal. As I recall, she said an offer was expected from LU at $40 to occur on Friday -- I'm waiting. I believe that the way she handled this was very careless, and am surprised CNBC would allow this. You may have noticed that Bob Pisani reported several times the other side quoting an analyst who said the proposed acquisition did not make sense in his view -- with the stock dropping 1/2 point after each report only to recover again.

If the rumor is false, the stock will probably not drop too much since the fundamentals appear to be firming, and I expect upgrades soon. IMO, the probability of the buy-out is 60%.
