You eat too many pretzels, try to think logically, why would a designer tinker in only one small epoch and that conveniently 550mil yrs ago? You cannot even begin to conceptualize what a long gap or short gap is or much about the changing conditions then. Especially in a completely aquatic environment (that was a vast ocean) with many different locales/ ecosystems for all these changes to occur.

Changes do happen rapidly at certain times, especially after what they believe was a snow/slush earth & life had already been developing for 2.5bil yrs. One only imagines simply that first stage would be the longest during which the geology undrgoes transformation, the cyanobacteria initiates an oxygen cycle , vast amounts of iron oxidizes & precipitates out etc.
