THE 3Dfx showcase game title: Longbow2
For those of you lurking, wondering what all the hype is about, well see for yourself. Go to your computer store and pick up a 3Dfx based board and Longbow2 and you'll be a 3Dfx investor within an hour. Here is a review quote from Online Gaming Review: ogr.com
Now is the time I gush about the graphics. Let me make this point right off the bat. If you do not currently own a 3Dfx card, then I highly recommend you get one. Longbow 2 was created from the ground up to take advantage of it and it shows. Absolutely stunning. With no planned Direct3D or Rendition support, each day finds the 3Dfx gaining steam and pulling ahead of the competition and Longbow easily represents the pinnacle of what this card is capable of. Sporting a smooth frame rate is just one benefit of the 3Dfx implementation. It's the lighting effects of the card that really get your attention, especially if you happen to be flying a night mission. Nothing quite beats the look of a few Hellfire missiles snaking away from your Longbow, arcing into the dark sky, only to explode with jaw-dropping beauty upon the opposition. Seeing the once dark landscape of the terrain ahead briefly illuminated by an exploding tank just has to be seen to be believed. Every object in the game, whether a helicopter or ground unit, has been faithfully reproduced. There are times when the graphics are so good you could swear you're looking at a pre-rendered cut-scene. There is one drawback to the luscious graphics, however. At times it can be so impressive that you waste precious time admiring everything around you and neglect to realize you have an enemy missile locked on you. Longbow 2 invites spectating, but war is no time to be sight-seeing. You just can't help it.
Every review I have read basically says the same thing. Once I get my Saitek X-36 joystick/throttle this is the first flight sim I'm buying.
