Planned Parenthood ‘sex educator’ upset that parents are allowed to parent their kids

For one 2013 Netroots Nation attendee, the fact that a parent would be able to make decisions about their child’s education — especially sex education — is apparently outrageous.
The attendee, who said she was a Planned Parenthood sex educator, spoke up during the “ Free your Ass: Defining and Creating a Progressive Sexual Culture“ panel on Thursday. She implied that a parent’s ability to pull their child out of a school’s sex education course was somehow an overreach.

[ Only a liberal loon would let their child be taught by someone who wants to "free their ass." ]

“Even in a state that’s progressive [California], we still have opt-out, so a student’s parent can say, ‘Uh uh, I’m pulling my kid out of that class,’” she told the panel. “It’s not part of the curriculum, forced curriculum, like math or science.”

The questioner also said much of sex education wasn’t current with the times and was still controlled at a state level, instead of by the federal government.

While the panelists didn’t necessarily agree with the questioner’s take on a parent’s rights to determine their child’s sex education, they didn’t contradict her either.

Kierra Johnson, executive director of Choice USA, said there is a lot of work to be done in the sexual education system in schools, but that there’s also work to be done outside that system — such as in church and faith groups. She stressed that their were other means of reaching a community and changing the views of sex education.

Those means also might go around the authority of parents in a household.

Because heaven forbid that parents actually parent their underage children.
