Among the possible reasons why homeowners gave up on their properties is the 41.7% housing price drop from the end of 2007 through the end of 2012, one of the worst declines in the nation.

From what I have seen most owners and (or) tenants moved out after something big like the A/C breaking down or roof leak requiring a major investment. Most all of thee properties have had no repairs and maintenance for a good six years by now which made living conditions quite disgusting in this humid tropical climate over time. If that didn't get them to move the judicial process during foreclosure with legal docs served on them thinking they would be evicted any day, week or month did. I've seen many cases actually set for sale as far back as 2008-09 still in limbo or actually closed by the judge for inactivity all these years down here..
