I think when AMD originally released the K6, AMD thought that their CPU
would perform equally or even better than anything Intel would have to
offer for 3 - 6 months. Their mistake was underestimating Intel's process
superiority and willingness to cut prices. Intel will continue to stay
at least 2 speed bins ahead of AMD and Intel will also aggressively
price their CPU's that compete with AMD and Cyrix. Both AMD and Cyrix
just do not have the financial resources to develop leading edge process
technology.
